Was the M365 admin center down for a few hours on 15 April 2025? Yes!

We could make out that the problem was not widespread as the text explicitly mentioned “some admins” – meaning it wasn’t everyone, but enough to cause ripples.

Just 30 minutes later ( 19:00 UTC, Apr 15), we got an update. Microsoft successfully diagnosed the reason (Infrastructure performing below acceptable thresholds) and region (West US) for the problem.

The main issue was akin to a highway getting congested. So the same remedy that is used to clear out the traffic was applied here as well, i.e. rerouting to healthier routes.

From there, it hardly took 40 minutes when we got another update at 19:38 UTC, Apr 15, and this time, there was a resolution as well. Microsoft monitoring (“telemetry”) said that the rerouting traffic plan had worked, and just like that, the issue was fixed.

Overall, the entire incident, from the first user complaints to the eventual fix, happened in about an hour.
